Dank der seriellen Schnittstelle, an der ein externes ISDN Modem angeschlossen werden kann, stellt der FR328S dem Anwender eine Fallback-Alternative zur Verfügung. So kann im Falle eines Ausfalles der DSL-Breitband-Netzwerkverbindung über ein serielles ISDN-Modem die Verbindung ins Netz aufrecht erhalten werden.
Außerdem bietet der FR328S ein komplettes Sicherheitspaket für das Netzwerk, wie die Verhinderung von Denial of Service (DoS)-Attacken und die Hacker-Erkennung durch Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI)-Technologie. Zudem bietet der Router Protokollierung, Berichte und Alarme über Internet-Aktivitäten und Content-Filterung auf URL-Basis, um für bestimmte Benutzer den Zugang zu bestimmten Webseiten zu sperren. Eine VPN-Passthrough-Funktion sorgt für ein Maximum an Netzwerksicherheit. Der FR328S verfügt über acht 10/100-MBit/s Auto Uplink-Ports.
